SWERY and Suda51 have unveiled their new game, dubbed Hotel Barcelona, with a new trailer. In the trailer features SWERY talking about the game’s plot, and how its gameplay mashes multiple genres together to get players in to the 1980s horror movie vibes that it is going for. Check it out below.

While the side-scrolling hack-and-slash gameplay might look pretty bog standard, as SWERY explains it, the title features unique death mechanics that not only allow players to level up and get stronger, but also allows them to fight alongside their past selves.

Hotel Barcelona has been described as a “kind of parody-horror-roguelike-slasher hybrid” but SWERY, who went on to epxlain that its world was inspired by 1980s horror movies. Along with hordes of standard enemies, players will also have to take on America’s most notorious serial killers who have gathered up at the eponymous Hotel Barcelona.

Hotel Barcelona is being developed for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, and is slated for release later this year. Interestingly, the title was originally being teased all the way back in 2020.
