Episode one was the first time that the G-man was powerless to hold Gordon
What we know about the G-man is that he holds some kind of higher power and is in complete control of Gordon and unleashes him whenever he deems fit. However in Episode One, when he is about say something to Gordon more Vortigaunts appear on screen, he begins to look irritated, and then, as he looks toward Gordon, he realizes what is happening. And probably for the first time ever, he was pissed as he realized that that there was nothing he could do.
