With games like Wasteland and The Bard’s Tale under its belt, inXile Entertainment has established itself as one of the best developers of CRPGs in the industry, and now that the studio is a Microsoft-owned Xbox first party team, the potential of what they can manage with additional support and budget is quite exciting. That said, it’s going to be a while before we get to see what they’re working on next.
Brian Fargo, studio head at inXile, recently took to Twitter to talk about how excited he was about the visuals, design, and writing for the developer’s “next big game”- but added that it’s going to be “quite a lot time” before we get to see what exactly that is. When prompted further about how long it might take, Fargo suggested in another tweet that it’s at least going to be another year (though it could possibly be longer).
Fargo has previously spoken about inXile’s next RPG, saying a few months back that the project was “in the infancy of pre-production.” Meanwhile, it’s been previously confirmed that the game will be built on Unreal Engine 5.
In the meantime, there’s other content coming from the developer for fans to look forward to. Wasteland 3 is going to receive two expansions, and the first of these – The Battle of Steeltown – launches on June 3.
I know that teasing is cruel but I am so excited about the visuals, design and writing for our next big game.
Unfortunately you won't see what I see for quite a long time.
