IO Interactive has enjoyed significant growth in recent years, driven by the success of Hitman’s World of Assassination trilogy, and as part of that growth, the company is continuing to expand its new studio. Having started out with its headquarters in Copenhagen, the Swedish developer opened a second studio in Malmo in 2019, followed by a third studio in Barcelona in 2021.
Now, IO Interactive has announced the establishment of a fourth studio, this time in Istanbul, Turkey, which, according to the developer is “uniquely positioned in the pan-continental gateway to Europe and Asia” and will play “a crucial part in the continued growth and success of IO Interactive”.
“The mission of IOI Istanbul is to establish a hub for AAA game development in the region and create unique game experiences for our players across the world,” IO Interactive writes, adding that the Istanbul studio will “play a significant role” in the development of Project 007, the recently-confirmed Project Fantasy, and future Hitman projects- the latter of which may not begin production for some time.
In September last year, IO Interactive said that it doesn’t expect to release any new games until at least April 2025, so it may be a while before we get any significant updates on how the aforementioned ongoing projects are proceeding.
