It’s been nearly a decade since the original launch of Grand Theft Auto 5, but somehow, Rockstar is still getting more new mileage out of the open world game than even many new releases can hope to. Last week, GTA 5’s enhanced and remastered version launched for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, alongside a standalone launch for GTA Online, and to no one’s surprise, the game got off to an excellent start from a sales perspective.
As per the latest weekly digital sales data for the UK provided by GSD (via GamesIndustry), Grand Theft Auto 5 was the best-selling digital games in the region last week. It topples Elden Ring, which is pushed down to No. 2. In fact, it’s instantly become the second-biggest video game launch in the UK for 2022 so far- behind the aforementioned Elden Ring. Meanwhile, GTA Online’s standalone version comes in at No. 3- though since it’s currently available for free on PS5, only the Xbox Series X/S version is counted here.
WWE 2K22 occupies two places in the top 10, with its previous-gen and current-gen versions taking the No. 4 and No. 5 spots, while Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin debuts in eighth place.
