PlayStation Vita still going strong at number 2.

After a price cut that helped push it so far ahead of the competition that sales figures were quadruple from before, the PlayStation Vita has once again taken a backseat to the supremacy of Nintendo’s 3DS XL handheld according to the latest Media Create hardware sales from March 11th to March 17th.

The 3DS XL went from 39,801 the week before to 47,985 this week as the PS Vita fell from 63,581 to 36,028. Sales numbers of major consoles like the Wii U (from 9,454 to 9,539) and the PS3 (19,567 to 20,676) remain more or less stable.

Of course, it’s still in the number 2 slot and still outsells other Nintendo consoles such as the 3DS and Wii U by a strong margin. But after the amazing performance we saw last week, there is concern as to whether this indicates a downward turn for Sony’s handheld.

We would make a joke this week about Microsoft’s Xbox 360 remaining last and still refusing to break past 1000 units sold a week. But we’ll pass.
