In between causing mass havoc and battling the weather and Black Hand troops alike in Avalanche Studios’ Just Cause 4, players have discovered a rather interesting easter egg. When heading to a certain area on the map, Rico will encounter a black pot with a pick axe next to it. Use it, and suddenly, the game shifts to a side-scrolling perspective.

If you’ve played or even watched gameplay footage of Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy, you know exactly what this is. Rico must navigate past some obstacles using physics and a pick axe, while a character named “Bennett” reads out pseudo-philosophical quotes. In the original game, said quotes would have actually been philosophical, but these are quotes from Rico about blowing things up. Take from that what you will.

It’s a rather interesting homage, especially the line about “watching this easter egg online”, since Getting Over It’s notorious difficulty ensured many of us experienced the game vicariously. The original game is available for PC, iOS, and Android, but you can watch Just Cause 4’s take on the same below (courtesy of MKIceAndFire).
