It’s been a long wait, but Kingdom Hearts 3 is almost here. The series started off in 2002, with Kingdom Hearts II launching three years later, and though we’ve played a lot of spinoffs since then, it’s still been a really long wait for the next mainline instalment in the series, which is also going to end the current narrative arc. Kingdom Hearts mastermind Tetsuya Nomura was recently asked about how he’s feeling about the conclusion in an interview with US Gamer, and he said that, more than anything else, he’s just relieved that he’s been able to finish the story Square Enix started telling sixteen years ago.
“It does come to an end, but I’m not fully swayed to one emotion,” Nomura said when the question was posed to him. “I’m not really happy, I’m not really sad. Although I do feel a little sad when I think some characters will probably never appear ever again. Once I think about that, it makes me a little sad. But other than that I’m just more relieved that I was able to tell the full story.”
I guess relieved is what most of us will be feeling as well- we’ve been waiting for Kingdom Hearts 3 for over a decade, after all, and though we’re all definitely very happy that we’re finally getting to play the next instalment, we’re also quite relieved that we won’t have to wait much more. Kingdom Hearts 3 launches for the PS4 and Xbox One on January 29, 2019. Not long to go now.
