Blades of Fire

Metroid Dread developer MercurcySteam has finally unveiled its next titleBlades of Fire, a 3D action-adventure game. Launching on May 22nd for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC (via the Epic Games Store), it retails for $59.99 with pre-orders now live. Check out the gameplay trailer below.

Players control Aran de Lira of the King’s Ward, one of the few remaining who can use steel after Queen Nerea’s curse. Facing off against her minions, Aran can utilize over 30 Forge Scrolls and pull from seven weapon families to create “almost infinite” weapon combos. Combat involves targetting different body parts, though your choice of weapon will determine whether it can pierce enemy armor.

With over 50 enemy types, there’s a surprising amount of variety. Aran also works alongside Adso, who provides tips and adds to the lore as they venture across different environments to defeat Queen Nerea. Stay tuned for more details in the coming weeks.
