Kingdom Hearts 3 may be more than a year away from release – certainly, that is clear once you consider that the hype for the game is probably at the lowest that it’s been since its 2013 re-reveal at E3 – but that doesn’t mean that fans aren’t thirsty to know more about the game, either.
Speaking during E3, Kingdom Hearts director Tetsura Nomura had some new information to share about the game. For instance, given that the games in the series are spread across multiple platforms right now (even now, in spite of a mammoth consolidation effort via HD re-releases, which attempted to gather all Kingdom Hearts games on PlayStation, the games are spread across PS3 and PS4- which is to say nothing of poor Xbox only owners, who will be going into the game with no context), he confirmed that there will be a short prelude to the game that will catch players up with the story so far before the game proper begins.
Nomura also confirmed that the Command Styles gameplay function from Birth By Sleep was the impetus for the creation of the Keyblade Transformations in Kingdom Hearts 3. Nomura also confirmed that what was in the E3 showfloor demo of the game will make it into the final release, too- he says that he wanted to give players something to explore with that demo, somewhere they’d have to get high up to get a feel for the area before proceeding- and this is the kind of feel that the final game will have, too.
Kingdom Hearts 3 will launch on Xbox One and PS4 in 2017.
