Lies of P Overture

While critically acclaimed Soulslike game Lies of P has recently seen the release of a well-received DLC – Overture – there have been complaints about the overall difficulty of the new content. Players have taken to various social media platforms to discuss the fact that the balancing around the new difficulty options has seemingly skewed the “intended” option into feeling unfairly difficult.

As caught by IGN, the Lies of P subreddit even features a megathread where the community is discussing the much higher difficulty of Overture. Even Steam’s reviews haven’t escaped this, with one coming from a player claiming to be level 300 and still getting killed by basic enemies in two hits.

According to Eurogamer, game director Jiwon Choi has released a statement through a new video where he said that the studio is taking the feedback into account and looking into fine tuning the difficulty.

“We’re reviewing all of it carefully and are already looking into when to implement some of your suggestions,” said Choi in the video, which you can check out below. “Among all the feedback, we are paying the closest attention to the combat experience. We identified areas that did not turn out quite as we intended. Therefore, we are reviewing various adjustments, including difficulty reduction.”

“However, combat is one of the most fundamental experiences in Lies of P, so any modifications or changes require meticulous work and thorough testing.”

Considering Choi’s statement, it is likely that any balance tuning that is officially released for Lies of P: Overture will likely take some time. As Choi himself said, the studio wants to make sure that it gets the balance right and doesn’t accidentally end up making the game too easy.

Lies of P: Overture was released over the weekend as a surprise, and features a new adventure where players get to visit a past version of Krat. Protagonist P gets to revisit a version of Krat that existed right before it started turning to ruin. The DLC also features Lea, the Legendary Stalker, who P can team up with on their way to discover the secrets buried in Krat’s past.

Along with the entirely new zone, Lies of P: Overture also brings wi th it a host of new weapons, complete with new combat styles that players can take advantage of to take on its challenges. At the time of writing, Lies of P: Overture is still sitting at a “Mostly Positive” review aggregate on Steam, which means that 77 percent of its 1,667 user reviews recommend the DLC. It is priced at $29.99.

Lies of P was released on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S back in 2023. Since then, the game has seen quite a bit of success. Neowiz revealed back in March 2024 that Lies of P had gotten more than 7 million players. Considering that we’re over a year since this announcement, the number has likely gone up by quite a bit as well.
