Along with a new trailer leading up to E3 2013, Square Enix also delivered a batch of 720p screenshots for Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. The screenshots showcase the various enemies, environments and combat sequences from the trailer. Chief among these are Snow’s new look, and Lightning’s various costumes.

Lightning Returns takes place 100 years after the events of the second game, and sees Lightning return in her role as the protagonist. Reportedly the only playable character this time around, Lightning must race against the clock to stop the destruction of the world. Various characters from the past games make an appearance, including Noel Kriess who also appeared in the trailer to attack Lightning.

As of now, the game seems to be taking a more real-time, action oriented approach to its combat. We haven’t seen the effects of Lightning’s various costumes but her different combos and abilities have been shown off quite well.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII is set to release for Xbox 360 and PS3 on February 11th 2014 in North America and February 14th 2014 in Europe.
