Marathon

Following its announcement that Marathon would launch this March, Bungie has a new trailer on the way to confirm a definite date: March 5th. I say “on the way” because it’s seemingly gone live early via the Xbox Community page on consoles. As described by Resetera, go to the game’s store listing, add it to the Dashboard, and you can view the trailer.

While you may call this another foul-up on Bungie’s part, it seems that the trailer may gone live too early on Xbox’s end. Either way, an official announcement and pre-orders are likely happening soon. The trailer’s end even offers a glimpse of the Deluxe Edition Content, including weapon skins for the Overrun assault rifle and Misriah 2442 pump shotgun.

You also get the Midnight Decay bundle, which provides alternate skins for the Destroyer, Assassin and Vandal Runner Shells. Maybe the other benefits will include early access to the upcoming open beta (assuming one is happening).

Even if this wasn’t how Bungie wanted to announce the release date, it’s certainly a watershed moment for Marathon. There have been years of development trouble, including the firing of former director Chris Barrett and a former art team member using a freelance artist’s assets without permission. The race really begins after launch, but it just might be the fresh new beginning that the studio needs.
