It almost feels like all the controversy with Bungie’s Marathon over the past year was a bad dream, especially with its relatively strong launch trailer. While it’s out next month, all platforms can go hands-on with the first two maps, Perimeter and Dire Marsh, in the upcoming Server Slam from February 26th to March 2nd.

But what about Season 1? It offers two zones – Outpost and Cryo Archive, the latter serving as an end-game zone with puzzles on the UESC Marathon. Ranked Mode will also be available alongside the “full” Contract and progression trees for all the factions. Bungie is teasing “more” on top of this, and we’ll likely learn more heading into launch.

As for the Server Slam, it lets you try out all the Runner Shells (though Rook is scavenger-only) and complete the initial Contracts for five factions. Solo queue and proximity chat will also be available, so we’ll see if any ARC Raiders-style shenanigans emerge as a result.

Marathon launches on March 5th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. Aside from fully detailing Season 1, Bungie has yet to provide a post-launch roadmap. Director Joe Ziegler described the seasonal structure as a “months-long rogue-like adventure,” though how exactly it will work (and what players can keep after server wipes) remains to be seen.
