After various brief gameplay snippets, Nintendo has released an overview trailer for Mario and Luigi: Brothership. As the series’ first new entry since 2015’s Mario and Luigi: Paper Jam, the platformer/RPG sees the iconic brothers venturing to Concordia. Though it used to be one continent, a strange force caused it to split into multiple islands.

With Shipshape Island at their disposal, Mario and Luigi explore the islands, encountering different citizens and cultures. Exploration is a key element and the new Bros. Moves make it easier, like turning into a UFO to cross gaps. Luigi can also perform some autonomous functions, like gathering coins, when he’s not using a barrel to provide cover for Mario.

As with the Paper Mario series, combat is timing-focused, with options to dodge and counterattacks or deal extra damage with well-timed button presses. Bros. Attacks offer high-damage duo moves, but you also have Battle Plugs, which activate passive effects like dropping iron balls on enemies or turning a single-target attack into an area of effect.
