Alternate Costumes and Color schemes are a staple of games in the fighting genre, and things are no different in MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls. The 21 characters have as many as nine palette swaps each which are unlocked under different criteria, and a handful of characters even have alternate costumes or outfits, each with their own color swaps.
This guide for MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls lists the unlock methodology for every Color scheme, as well as the few full model changes available currently.
How To Unlock All Colors
All 21 characters have a set of simple palette swaps of their default Costume, numbered 1 through 9 in-game. The first four are unlocked by default for every character including The Champion.
How To Unlock Color 5
Access Episode Mode from the main menu and play through the entirety of the specific story for the team to which your preferred character belongs. The color will then unlock for all four members of that particular squad. Since the secret 21st character known as The Champion has no team, he does not get a Color 5 to choose.
How To Unlock Color 6
Merely completing 10 matches online as a Casual will unlock this color scheme for all 21 characters across the board. No specific character required, nor is winning a factor.
How To Unlock Color 7
A tougher unlock that is accomplished through the All-Star Arena’s Survival mode. You will need 100 KOs, with that hundredth opponent being The Champion himself.
Every four KOs leads to a mini-boss battle, after which you may draw a Soul Card and save.
The Soul Cards are a team-wide buff, and you may hold up to four distinct cards concurrently.
Duplicate draws of held cards simply buffs them further.
Defeat will end your run, forcing you to begin anew, with the counter reset to 0 KOs.
Saving allows you to avoid burnout in one long marathon session, but also affords you the opportunity to save-scum against defeat, by simply force-quitting the game and reloading your last save.
A full clear of a hundred opponents could potentially take anything between two to three hours depending on your skill level.
After trudging through that experience, Color 7 will thankfully be unlocked on a global level for all 21 characters, including The Champion himself.
How To Unlock Color 8
This might feel as tedious to complete as Color 7, if not more, though it does serve a legitimate purpose if you think about it. The Color is unlocked individually for each character you select, by forcing you to put them through their paces in the Character Lessons.
Perform the entirety of the checklist for the Action Checks.
Next, do all of the Combo Challenges. These trials are fairly demanding to accomplish, and the difficulty can spike based on the character involved.
Once both have been completed successfully, you will unlock Color 8 only for that particular character.
This also applies to The Champion, once you have unlocked him.
How To Unlock Color 9
Unfortunately, Color 9 is locked behind the purchase of the Ultimate Edition of the game, with absolutely no in-game method to access it for free otherwise. If you already own the standard or Digital Deluxe edition of the game, you can simply upgrade to the Ultimate Edition in order to automatically acquire this Color for the default Costumes of all 20 characters, excluding The Champion to whom Color 9 cannot be applied at all.
How To Unlock Alternate Outfits
Only 5 out of the 20 characters in the launch roster even have full alternate costume models. They are:
- Spider-Man Advanced Suit 2.0
- Storm Punk Rock
- Iron Man Classic
- Captain America Classic
- Doctor Doom Supreme Ruler
Sadly, even just these five are also paywalled behind the Ultimate Edition of the game, with no alternate methods to unlock them. They each come with eight unique palette swaps, which are automatically available for use right from the start. Color 9 is not available to them in any way.
