Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is set to launch globally imminently, and excitement continues to mount in the lead-up to its release, especially with the excellent critical reception it has enjoyed over the last couple of days. And while developer Insomniac Games is confident that the experience it has shipped on discs is going to be an excellent one for players right out the box, the studio does recommend downloading the game’s day one update for the best possible experience.

In a post recently shared on Twitter, Insomniac said that while game you’ll find on the disc will be fully playable without any online requirements, downloading update Version 1.001.002 before playing the game is recommended for the best experience. Meanwhile, digital players will, of course, get access to the game with all of its updates pre-installed.

“Since going gold,” our team made notable enhancements to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 that we’d love for you to experience from the very beginning,” Insomniac wrote.

“This update features polish to the gold master version of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 available on disc, which improves the opening sections of the game and includes other general refinements to your Spidey experience, including some accessibility options.”

In our review of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, we awarded it a score of 9/10, saying, “Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is exactly the sort of sequel you’d want it to be, and though it stumbles here and there, ultimately, it improves on its predecessors in almost every way that matters most.” Read the full review through here.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 launches for PS5 on October 20.
