Following its gameplay reveal of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Insomniac Games shared some new details on the upcoming PS5 exclusive on the PlayStation Blog. It confirmed the East River in Queens as one of the new boroughs that players will explore.

The L1 button seems to regulate Peter’s new Symbiote powers. You can still dodge, but some attacks require parrying. New takedowns and combat animations have been added to showcase “a much more impulsive Peter Parker.” Insomniac also teases “delving into Peter’s personal relationship with the Symbiote and how it affects those closest to him.”

The Web Wings are another new ability, allowing Peter or Miles to glide through the city. You can even use wind tunnels for increased speed, with the PS5’s SSD facilitating the quick streaming of assets. Whether players are keen on stealth or combat, new gadgets and abilities have been added, including dual takedowns and the Web Line for creating zip lines.

There’s also the Web Grabber to pull foes together. Miles can also use Chain Lighting to chain his Venom Blast to nearby enemies and Thunder Burst for a devastating ground pound. Each hero has unique skill trees, though there’s also a shared skill tree with upgrades that apply to both. Gadgets are also shared, and they’ll even train together.

Graphically, there are “more dramatic” shadows and reflections, improved textures and higher particle density. Spatial 3D audio and support for the DualSense’s adaptive triggers and haptic feedback.

While a release date wasn’t revealed, Insomniac hopes to share a “final release date soon.” In the meantime, stay tuned for details on pre-orders and different editions. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 launches this Fall for PS5.
