In Marvel’s Wolverine, XP isn’t just used to progress through the leveling system and unlock gated skills and abilities. It is also how Technique Points are granted at the rate of one per level up, which in turn are used to unlock Wolverine’s Techniques, a set of active abilities and passive modifiers for use in combat.
This guide for Marvel’s Wolverine has all the tips and tricks you need to know to farm XP as quickly and efficiently as possible, in order to level up and earn Technique Points.
Restart Last Checkpoint Exploit
Taking a page from souls-like games, it is entirely possible to identify a large cluster of relatively easy enemies, slaughter all but one or two stragglers, and then restart from the last checkpoint through the pause menu.
You will collect all the XP that you earned from slicing and dicing your way through enemies, but the entire group will respawn when you reload the area.
The reason you leave a survivor or two is because, unlike souls-like games, enemies don’t repopulate by default design in this action platformer. Instead, they respawn based on the fact that you didn’t finish thoroughly eliminating the entire cluster before continuing on to the next area.
You should also note that certain other factors like the actions of major NPCs such as Sabretooth and Jean Grey can have some bearing on your XP farm in a given section of the game.
This cannot be used to abuse XP cache locations, which are single use only, even into New Game Plus where those that were already collected in normal mode do not respawn again.
Early Game XP Farm
Right at the start of the game in Madripoor, the ‘Knock Knock’ chapter has successive areas with ordinary enemies to cut through while in pursuit of Sabretooth. Eliminate most of them and reset to the last checkpoint, but don’t try to get every last one aside from the sole survivor whom you actually need, as Sabretooth himself can break this farm by progressing the level.
This loop can earn almost ~200XP per run, which is not bad at all at this stage in the game.
Late Game XP Farm
An even easier XP farm exploit can be found much later in the game during ‘Way Down Low’ chapter, where a cutscene with Jean Grey annihilating an enemy cluster automatically grants you ~150XP. Best of all, you can instantly reset from the last checkpoint, locking in XP gains every single time.
Since level XP requirements do not seem to increase exponentially as Wolverine ranks up, this particular XP farm is just as valuable as any other, with the added benefit of needing no effort whatsoever.
General XP Farming Tips
If you don’t want to grind XP mindlessly, you can simply prioritize exploration of the semi-open world instead. This will allow you to discover XP caches, of which there is a double-digit count hidden across each and every chapter, but often well off of the beaten path of the story’s linear progression.
Be sure to unlock and equip Crate Finder and Whiskey Finder in order to more easily detect all kinds of resources and collectibles as you scour the game world.
Also keep an eagle eye out for any other environmental props and objects that glow blue, which is supposed to function as a helpful visual indicator for points of interest, and which earn Logan XP once he notices them properly.
Level Cap And New Game Plus
With the base game level cap of 36, you will have earned exactly enough Technique Points to unlock every single node in the Techniques tree in normal mode.
In New Game Plus, an additional Technique with a total of four upgrades to it will also become accessible, thus pushing the new level cap to 40.
But even though the XP appears to stop accruing at its cap of 36 in normal mode, it does in fact continue to accumulate under the hood. This means that when you start New Game Plus mode, you may gain levels right away if you were mindlessly farming XP before concluding your first run of the game.
That is every single thing of note regarding grinding for XP and gaining Technique Points fast with little to no effort in Marvel’s Wolverine.
