Of all the upcoming first party titles Sony currently has in the works for the PS5, we don’t know about a great many of them, though of course, a couple of major titles in the pipeline have been officially confirmed. One of those is Marvel’s Wolverine, in development at Insomniac Games, for which there’s been no word on even a rough launch window since its announcement.
Interestingly enough though, it seems like Microsoft is under the impression that the game will be out in 2023. That’s as per an official filing from the company published by the UK’s CMA, where Microsoft’s proposed acquisition of Activision Blizzard is currently being scrutinized.
With concerns that the proposed deal could end up harming competition and significantly hurt Sony’s position in the market, one of many arguments presented by Microsoft points out that even in 2023, PlayStation has a number of major exclusive releases lined up- among which Marvel’s Wolverine is mentioned in the document.
“PlayStation also has a spate of first- and third-party exclusive titles lined up for launch in 2023, including Spider-Man 2, Wolverine, Horizon, Final Fantasy 16 and Forspoken,” Microsoft writes (pg. 10).
That certainly raises some eyebrows. When Marvel’s Wolverine was announced in September of last year, Insomniac said that it was in “very early development”, suggesting that launch was several years away. The assumption would be that Microsoft has mentioned the game mistakenly, though every other aforementioned title does have an official 2023 launch window.
Insomniac is currently also working on Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. The developer recently reiterated that it is set to launch in 2023.
