After the recent news that Mary DeMarle—one of the creative and writing leads on Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy—has joined BioWare, it has now been revealed that DeMarle is joining the Mass Effect team as senior narrative director.
The announcement was made by BioWare project director Michael Gamble on Twitter. It is well known at this point that BioWare is currently working on a new Mass Effect game, and the addition of DeMarle to the team certainly adds a high level of quality.
The next Mass Effect game is being built using Unreal Engine 5. The choice of engine for the studio was revealed by producer Brenon Holmes. For context, the original Mass Effect trilogy was developed using Unreal Engine 3. BioWare games since then, including titles like Dragon Age: Inquisition and Mass Effect: Andromeda, were made using EA’s in-house Frostbite engine.
The most recent Mass Effect release was the Mass Effect Legendary Edition, which was a package including all Mass Effect games from the original trilogy alongside their DLC. It is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
Oh, hey!
I'm really excited to let you know that Mary DeMarle will be joining the Mass Effect team as Senior Narrative Director. You've seen her work in Guardians of the Galaxy & Deus Ex (to name a few!). She's amazing.— Michael Gamble (@GambleMike) July 4, 2022
