Hyrule Warriors

Nintendo had an excellent week in Japan for both software and hardware sales according to the latest Media Create sales charts for the period of August 11th to 17th. While the main focus was on Hyrule Warriors, which debuted at 2nd place with more than 69,000 units sold, it was actually Youkai Watch that was the star.

The 3DS sequel has been out for a while now but has only recently crossed 2.2 million units sold. It sold 118,526 units last week and yes, it’s lifetime total is now nearly twice that of the original (which stands at 1.245 million units and is currently in 9th place).

Other big releases included Yoshi’s New Island with 29,933 units sold (lifetime sales at 144,162) and Mario Kart 8 with 28,221 units sold (with lifetime sales at 627,635 units). The PS Vita had a surprisingly tame week despite the launch of Monster Hunter Frontier G which sold 21,169 units in its debut week.
