Metal Gear Franchise Has Sold Over 59.8 Million Units

Amidst growing rumours of a long-awaited revival, Konami has confirmed that the Metal Gear series has now hit 59.8 million units sold to date.

It’s been a long time since Metal Gear was an active franchise, but such is its legacy and its popularity that it continues to truck along even now. It has, in fact, sold a decent amount of copies over the last three quarters, as Konami recently revealed.

As of March 31, the Metal Gear franchise has sold a total of 59.8 million units worldwide across all platforms. That includes all the mainline games and all of the series’ spinoffs. As of the end of last year, the franchise’s total sales stood at 59.5 million, so it’s sold a decent amount since then.

Interestingly, if rumours are to be believed, the Metal Gear franchise preparing to make its long-awaited comeback. Allegedly, the long-rumoured Metal Gear Solid 3 remake, which is allegedly developed by Virtuos, will be announced at the upcoming PlayStation Showcase on May 24. It’s been claimed that the game is targeting 2024 release.
