Quiet Burned Twice, Loses All Internal Organs

From the time she was first introduced, Quiet has been the subject of much controversy with her look. You’d think that in a game with so much murder, war crimes, child soldiers and other horrifying incidents that people would be less concerned with her looks but we digress. Quiet’s behaviour upon joining the Diamond Dogs is strange in itself: If anyone attempts to clothe her, they’re beaten to a pulp. She has enhanced strength and reflexes far beyond any other soldier, besides also being able to turn invisible. So what gives?

In the opening mission, Quiet was the assassin sent to the hospital to assassinate Big Boss. This led to Ishmael, the real Big Boss, intervening to save Venom Snake or the medic. Ishmael proceeded to incapacitate Quiet by burning her not once but twice, thus causing her to lose her internal organs. After receiving treatment with parasites, Quiet gained her powerful skills but had to breathe through her skin and absorb nutrients from the air. Subsequently, if fully clothed, she could be suffocated; if thrown underwater, she could drown. Her skin also constantly has the sensation of being on fire, which is why she adores the rain so much.

When you factor in everything else she goes through just to save Venom Snake, it only makes one feel sorry for Quiet by the end.
