PC users who have pre-ordered Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain won’t be able to pre-load the game on Steam prior to its release. This was confirmed by Metal Gear community manager Robert Allen Peeler on Twitter in response to fan queries.

This is particularly odd when one considers console version of the game will support pre-loading. It was also revealed that PC players could download it as soon as it goes live at midnight on September 1st. The pre-order option on Steam has been changed to “Buy it now” in response.

Though Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain isn’t that large in terms of download size, it still would’ve been a great option for PC players who want to experience the game as soon as it releases rather than waiting for a download.

Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain is out on September 1st for Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
