Of all the characters in the Metal Gear Solid universe – aside from Solid Snake of course – the story of Big Boss has been one that continually intrigued players. How did he start out and eventually become the legend that he was known for? How did Outer Heaven come into being? How did Big Boss finally descend into madness and become the villain of the NES Metal Gear games?

A new video released by PlayStation Japan details the history of the franchise and places an emphasis on Big Boss aka Venom Snake. The conclusion of the story will finally be told in Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain and honestly, we have no idea what to expect. But for now, it’s safe to assume that it will link to the retro Metal Gear games and the saga will come full circle.

Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain releases on September 1st for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3, PS4 and PC. What are your thoughts on the history of Metal Gear and PlayStation? Let us know in the comments below.
