Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain is a game that already plays things very close to its chest as far as emphasis on story and making sense of several storylines is concerned, so it’s no surprise that the Nuclear Disarmament Event has been something that fans of the series have been fascinated with for a long time. For those who don’t know, once every player across an entire server has disabled their nukes on Mother Base, bringing the total number of nukes across the server down to zero, a secret cutscene is triggered.
The cutscene was triggered (illegitimately) on PC some time back, but now it seems it’s been unlocked – finally – on consoles as well (via Metal Gear Informer). Players playing across all consoles – Xbox 360, PS3, PS4, and Xbox One – all have reported over the last few days that the cutscene has been triggered on the system they’re playing on. It is, however, unlikely that all players across servers on all four consoles somehow managed to disable their nukes at the same time, and sure enough, Konami are investigating the possibility of the scene having been triggered illegitimately on consoles as well, as they confirmed in a tweet.
Also worth noting- players on all consoles have already started creating nukes once again, so the cutscene is no longer available. Its time in the light was quite short lived.
