After several long-running rumors, Konami finally announced its remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Developed alongside Virtuos, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC, with the original voice actors returning. Of course, the question is whether Hideo Kojima, the series creator, is involved.

The answer seems obvious, after his falling out and departure from Konami. Nevertheless, IGN posed this question to a Konami spokesperson, who confirmed that Kojima isn’t involved. Yoji Shinkawa, who created much of the iconic art, is also not on board.

“They are not involved. However, the development team will work hard to create this remake and also the ports (for Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection) so that they can be enjoyed on multiple platforms by even more players all around the world.”

The “central role” of development is handled by developers at Konami who were “involved in the production of the past [games in the] Metal Gear series,” as they work alongside Virtuos, who also has experience on previous titles.

As for why Konami decided to remake Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater instead of, say, the first game, they responded, “We chose Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater because it depicts the birth of BIG BOSS (Naked Snake), which is the starting point of the Metal Gear series. Another reason is that many fans have been requesting a remake of this game for a long time.”

Though it didn’t confirm remakes of other titles, Konami isn’t completely ruling them out. It said, “Regarding remakes of previous games in the series other than Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, we will listen to player demand and consider accordingly.”

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater doesn’t have a release date. However, Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1, a collection of re-releases for Metal Gear Solid 1-3, is coming this Autumn. Head here for more details.
