Studio Zero’s Metaphor: ReFantazio and Bloober Team’s Silent Hill 2 remake both launch next week. While the former’s review embargo is unknown (the latter is allegedly on October 4th), both have already received their first reviews from Famitsu.

Silent Hill 2 received a 35 out of 40 and takes 16 to 18 hours to clear, lining up with the developer’s estimate for an average playthrough. It received praise for its visuals, atmosphere, characterization, and puzzles. Meanwhile, Metaphor: ReFantazio received a 37 out of 40, with reviews describing its feeling as “almost the same as the Persona series.”

Nearly everything – from the battle system and presentation to the story-telling – was received positively. It takes about 80 hours to finish, which crosses 100 hours when pursuing the “challenges.” Though it didn’t reveal what those were, director Katsura Hashino teased adding a “lot of fun stuff” that will “hopefully make you come back and continue to enjoy it after completing it.”

Silent Hill 2 remake and Metaphor: ReFantazio launch on October 8th. The former will be available for PS5 and PC, while the latter comes to PS4, PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
