As promised last week, a new trailer is available for Nintendo’s Metroid Dread. It showcases some of Samus’s new abilities, including Flash Shift for dashing forwards and backwards. A new called the Storm Missile, which allows for locking on with Free Aim and unleashing a barrage of missiles, is also used for puzzle solving and combat alike.

Other new abilities, as outlined in the latest Dread Report, include Pulse Radar which uses soundwaves to locate blocks that can be destroyed and Shinespark, activated in the Speed Booster state for flying through obstacles and damaging enemies in any direction. Returning weapons include the Grapple Beam, Ice Missile, Speed Booster and much more. However, the trailer also serves to highlight some of the more terrifying threats that Samus will come across.

These include a mysterious powerful Chozo warrior that causes our hero to lose all of her abilities in the beginning.  You’ll even deal with robots that resemble the Chozo and threaten Samus. But hey, at least Kraid, the massive boss that debuted in the first Metroid, returns once more so there’s some familiarity.

Metroid Dread releases on October 8th for Nintendo Switch. Stay tuned for more details in the coming weeks.
