Microsoft spokesperson Larry Hryb (Major Nelson), officially confirmed that the next-generation Xbox console does support 3D and 4K resolution standards.
“Xbox One supports both 3D and 4K,” said Hryb during a live Q&A session with gamers via Yahoo.
4K is also known as 4K Ultra HD which is four-times the resolution of current ‘Full HD’ standards. 1920 x 1080 is currently considered ‘Full HD”. Meanwhile, 4K Ultra HD would be 3840 x 2160 which s a immense difference and the next level of High Definition TVs.
TVs that support 4K HD already exist out in the market, however; they’re extremely expensive and it will take a long time for 4K resolution to get adopted in new homes.
Sony’s PlayStation 4 also supports 4K resolution output for video but not games.
Major Nelson was a bit vague during his statement, but its safe to assume that the 4K resolution will be limited to video content only.
