Head of Microsoft Gaming Phil Spencer has expressed some excitement about the company’s plans for the rest of the year. In an interview with Variety about the success of A Minecraft Movie, Spencer spoke about Microsoft’s slate of upcoming games, as well as titles that haven’t even been announced yet.
In the interview, Spencer mentions titles like South of Midnight, DOOM: The Dark Ages, and Obisdian’s The Outer Worlds 2, but he also mentioned that he wants to avoid accidentally leaking unannounced projects that might be coming out some time in 2025.
“For us and the rest of this calendar year, I really feel great about the slate of games,” said Spencer. “We just had Avowed come out, and I have to go backwards and just say Obsidian continues to do a great job. We’ve obviously talked about The Outer Worlds 2, South of Midnight, DOOM. There’s more stuff, some stuff that’s unannounced and I’m walking in my head to make sure I don’t leak anything.”
In light of Microsoft’s relatively recent push towards releasing its titles on to non-Xbox consoles, Spencer was also asked about his thoughts on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. He responded by referring to Nintendo as “a great partner.”
“It lets us continue to grow our community of people that care about the franchises that we have, and that’s really important for us to make sure we continue to invest in our games,” he said. “I’m really a big believer in what Nintendo means for this industry and us continuing to support them. And getting the support from them for our franchises, I think, is an important part of our future.”
As for its upcoming titles, Microsoft had confirmed earlier this month that it would be hosting an Xbox Games Showcase event on June 8. The event, livestreamed digitally, will focus on first-party Xbox games, as well as new titles by third-party developers from all over the world.
The most recent title published by Xbox has been South of Midnight, which came out earlier this month on PC and Xbox Series X/S. The title, also available through Xbox and PC Game Pass, takes place in the American Deep South and focuses on the story of Hazel’s journey to become a Weaver. Check out our review for more details.
There have also been rumours going around that Bethesda is on the cusp of shadow-dropping a remake of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion. While no official announcements have been made so far, the game is rumoured to be coming out some time in the week that starts on April 21.
In the meantime, Microsoft is also getting ready to release Indiana Jones and the Great Circle on PS5 today. The title got a trailer just last week to hype up its release on Sony’s console.
