Microsoft have floated the idea of future Xbox One hardware before- and recent rumors and leaks seem to indicate that they are indeed testing new Xbox hardware internally. However, we got our first explicit confirmation of Microsoft’s gaming plans beyond just Xbox One in a recent message posted on Xbox Wire by Xbox head Phil Spencer.

“Over the next few weeks and months, we’ll be sharing more of our plans for gaming on Xbox One, Windows 10, and beyond (emphasis added),” Spencer said, hinting that Microsoft may be gearing up to make an announcement about the future of Xbox soon.

The exact nature of this future Xbox hardware remains up in the air- Spencer’s initial remarks seemed to indicate that Microsoft would be looking at incremental upgrades, of the kind that Sony are apparently aiming for with the PS4K, but Spencer has since shot down that notion. FCC filings indicate that there are at least some updates to Xbox One hardware, however- a notion that The Verge has since apparently backed up, too.

Exactly what it is that Microsoft plans to announce? We don’t know yet. But this E3 looks to be a pretty exciting one already, that is for sure.
