88-Mortal Kombat (1992)
Despite controversies for gore, Mortal Kombat broke no ground in its use of live-action modeled characters fighting against 3D backdrops. It brought a brutality and realism missing from Street Fighter, and it didn’t hurt that the animations were quite well done overall.
