MindsEye

Build A Rocket Boy’s MindsEye received a release date recently and has caught some attention due to the creative mind behind it – former Rockstar North president Leslie Benzie. The new trailer introduces Redrock City, a city caught between controlling forces – Silva Industries and Mayor Vega – but it’s more of a “faux open world.”

Speaking to Eurogamer, the developer revealed that MindsEye is a linear narrative that will take about 15 hours to finish. Regarding this, assistant game director Adam Whiting feels there’s something about a “well-crafted story” in an industry looking for the next big live service hit.

“I understand that the landscape has changed, and. You know, games are so expensive to make I think that people are trying to build like, you know, big life service games. But I think there’s something to be said about just like a really meaningful, well-paced, really well-constructed, well-crafted story that players can immerse themselves in, that’s got moments of tension, character development, tender moments, and then moments of spectacle and drama.”

The greater vision is to provide something “at the end of a long day at the office, or whatever it is you’re doing with your days, just sitting at home and enjoying something that’s delivering a meaningful, well-paced story respectful of your time as well.”

MindsEye doesn’t follow the $70 pricing of contemporary triple-A titles, instead costing $59.99. Despite promising a linear adventure, you can get a Premium Pass and a Horde mode mission created in ARCADIA (the developer’s proprietary toolset) with the Deluxe Edition. The latter will deliver “new gameplay frequently,” though in what capacity remains to be seen.

MindsEye launches on June 10th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC.
