Microsoft has announced that the Minecraft Bedrock Update, which brings full cross platform play to the Nintendo Switch version of the game with the Xbox One, PC, Mac, VR, iOS, and Android versions of the title, is going to be launching on June 21. That is also the day, incidentally, that the retail version of Minecraft for Nintendo Switch launches- this has been a long time coming.
The Bedrock update also brings other perks and benefits to the Nintendo Switch version apart from just cross platform play- the limitations inherent to the native Switch version of the game, such as world size, will now be gone, and the Switch version will have full feature parity with the other versions. So that’s super cool as well.
Minecraft is available on Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, Nintendo 3DS, Wii U, Nintendo Switch, PS Vita, VR platforms, iOS, Android, PC, and Mac- although the PlayStation versions don’t get cross platform play or the Bedrock Engine, and the last gen versions of the game will stop being supported soon.
