Gamescom Opening Night Live is coming up on August 20th, and that’s likely where Capcom will drop its next trailer for Monster Hunter Wilds. In the meantime, it’s begun highlighting each weapon type in the game, starting with the Great Sword. Slow but hard-hitting, it’s a weapon for hit-and-run tactics and big damage numbers.

The Great Sword’s hallmark is its charged slashes, which leave the user vulnerable for a moment. However, successfully landing one can lead to two additional stages of charged slashes. The weapon is also ideal for guarding against attacks, and you can cancel charged slashes with a shoulder tackle (which also grants damage reduction).

Wilds introduces is a powerful upward slash which can knock a monster down, leading to two follow-up slices. Focus Mode allows for dragging the blade across a monster, dealing damage to multiple wounds, and there’s also a cool moment when blocking a strike.

Monster Hunter Wilds is out next year for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. Check out Capcom’s other recent trailers or our feature for more details.
