Mortal Kombat 1 has been out for a few days, but developer NetherRealm Studios already has plenty of upcoming content in the pipeline, which, unsurprisingly, also includes guest DLC characters in the form of The Boys’ Homelander, DC’s Peacemaker, and Invincible’s Omni-Man. However, those might not be the only gues characters that will added to the game in the coming months.

Recently, dataminers were able to dig into Mortal Kombat 1’s files and find evidence of additional characters that aren’t currently in the game but could be added in later, including the likes of series characters Noob Saibot, Cassie Cage, and Jade, and guest characters like Conan the Barbarian and Screm’s Ghostface.

Now, series co-creator and director Ed Boon seems to be teasing one of those as well. Taking to Twitter, Boon recently posted a cryptic image showing iconic villain characters from popular slasher horror franchise, some of whom have ticks on them, while others have a question marks. Those in the former group – like Jason Voorhees and Freddie Kreuger – have already appeared in previous Mortal Kombat games, while those with a question mark over their faces haven’t. Interestingly enough, Scream’s Ghostface is in that group, and takes centerstage in the image posted by Boon.

Though not necessarily concrete evidence, it’s certainly curious timing, given the aforementioned datamining leaks just a few days ago.

Mortal Kombat 1 is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Read our review of the game through here.
