Reiko was introduced in Mortal Kombat 4 and didn’t really serve as much more than a replacement for Noob Saibot (to the extent that their character models are pretty much the same). Then there was the whole controversy over his similarities and potential successor to Shao Kahn. While Reiko returned in Mortal Kombat Armageddon, the Shao Kahn comparisons continued to the extent of him becoming Outworld’s Sovereign in his own ending and not really serving a larger role.
