Today, The Game Awards announced that this year’s lineup of game announcements will be the biggest one they have had ever. That’s cause for excitement and anticipation for the event. But what kinds of announcements, exactly, can we expect at the show? Speaking to VentureBeat, Geoff Keighley, who is the producer of the show, mentioned that almost every major publisher will have some manner of announcement.
“Most of the major publishers will be sharing news on what they’re doing in the future,” he said.
Apparently, we can also probably expect a new crazy trailer for Death Stranding that tells us absolutely nothing at the show, too, because Keighley said that Kojima, as always, will be there as well.
“[Kojima] is always there in some form,” he said.
Keighley also shed some light on the nature of announcements, admitting that it’s not just all reveals of new titles, but also new announcements for existing games—a kind of thing that actually started at last year’s show, when PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds’s new map was announced at the event.
“Another thing you’ll see this year — yes, we have new game announcements, but we also have a lot of ongoing games,” he said. “People keep playing games as services, and they’ll have updates around new content and features that may get revealed at the show. Maybe it’s not a new game announcement, but it’s something that will matter to a massive player base around the world. That’s new and evolving. Last year, with PUBG, we announced Miramar, their second map. We revealed that at the show. That was a big moment. I think you’ll see more of that kind of thing with a lot of different games this year.”
That said, he reiterated, yet again, there will be new game announcements too—just nothing that they want to talk about before the show, since they want to keep the surprise. Which, to me, sounds good.
The Game Awards 2018 will air on December 6.
