New Streets of Rage, ESWAT Games Were Pitched to Sega

Backbone Entertainment came up with some concepts to pitch to Sega.

Streets of Rage is one of Sega’s more well-known yet understated franchises, gaining great popularity on the Sega Genesis before being subject to unsuccessful next-gen reboots. Meanwhile, Cyber Police ESWAT is a side-scrolling 1989 action game that’s better relegated to the cult classics of history.

It seems that new versions of both games were being pitched to Sega at some point – as concept art created by the original trio behind Streets of Rage, namely Axel Stone, Blaze Fielding and Adam Hunter was posted online by a former artist for Backbone Entertainment. Check them out below.

But that’s not all: There was concept art for rebooting ESWAT entirely. And it doesn’t look half bad.

Of course, these never went anywhere. As it is, Sega is an entirely different beast today, publishing the works of studios more than investing in its own development. What could have been though, remains just another post in history.
