New Xbox One Update Rolls Out Today

More requested and awaited features added.

Microsoft has done an exemplary job of updating its Xbox One OS every month, bringing major features and fixes in response to community feedback; where the Xbox One OS may have been lacking and even unintuitive at launch, it has slowly grown and been iterated on.

Now, this month’s update- the October update- is finally live for all Xbox One consoles, and is launching today. The new update has updated Snap and Snap Center to be compatible with Friends, Messages, and Games DVR; updates to the Achievements app; updates to SmartGlass functionality; and finally, updates to the general Xbox One media capabilities. You can find more detailed lists of the update here.

Microsoft, alongside Nintendo, has been extraordinarily proactive in releasing updates for its Xbox One OS; Sony, with the PlayStation 4, has been sorely lacking in this area, though at least that looks to be changing with the upcoming PS4 2.0 Firmware Update.
