The Ghost Recon franchise has been on ice ever since Ubisoft cancelled battle royale shooter Ghost Recon Frontline almost three years ago. However, the next entry, codenamed “Ovr,” is reportedly making significant progress, according to Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson.

Various sources revealed to Henderson that an internal alpha will begin this Fall. It’s reportedly expected to launch next year, with 12 months required to go from alpha to the final product. Of course, in game development, that’s if things go according to plan and major changes aren’t required.

Rumors have circulated about the next Ghost Recon since 2022. It’s reportedly a first-person shooter with military sim mechanics, with Ready or Not used as a comparison. The setting is also allegedly much darker as players venture into the fictional “Naiman War,” where hundreds of thousands of deaths have occurred.

There’s apparently a stronger focus on squad-based combat, though it’s unknown if there will be open-world elements like Ghost Recon Wildlands and Breakpoint. Stay tuned for updates in the meantime.
