A “new look” for Ninja Gaiden 4 was promised for Gamescom Opening Night Live, and Team Ninja and PlatinumGames delivered. The trailer offers some new story details as Yakumo, the new protagonist and part of the Raven Clan, encounters a powerful figurehead of the Divine Dragon Order.

He’s encouraged to abandon his quest to take out the Dark Dragon, which he naturally refuses. Ryu Hayabusa also appears, challenging Yakumo to take him down if he’s serious about defeating the malevolent presence.

We also get a look at two new weapons – a pair of giant shurikens, which can be thrown, and a pair of devastating claws. That makes about five weapons for Yakumo to wield (with Ryu getting more in post-launch DLC).

Ninja Gaiden 4 launches on October 21st for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. It’s touted to last about 15 to 20 hours, but offers extensive side content with optional challenges. For those who seek a more forgiving experience, there’s Hero Mode. Head here for more details and stay tuned for even more gameplay as attendees go hands-on at Gamescom.
