A report emerged yesterday stating that Nintendo would be ceasing production of its Wii U console later in 2016. With the NX apparently around the corner, it wouldn’t be the most far-fetched development, though it’s doubtful if production would cease so quickly.

Nintendo issued its own statement on the report (as per IT Media) from ZhugeEX’s Twitter posts and noted that”The [Nikkei] report did not come from within our company. The company plans to continue production through [and beyond] the next fiscal year.”

The Nintendo Wii U hasn’t exactly been the biggest success for the company but it’s hung in there thus far with titles like Star Fox Zero and The Legend of Zelda out this year. What will the future of the console entail especially with details of the NX coming before E3? We’ll find out in the coming days so stay tuned and let us know what you think in the comments.
