Nintendo Switch Dominates Japan Sales Charts In Spite Of Slew of New Releases

The Switch almost doubles its sales in the face of several new high profile releases this week.

The Nintendo Switch appears to be nigh on unstoppable in Japan at this point. With the stock situation finally stabilizing (ahead of the launch of Super Mario Odyssey later this month), its sales are skyrocketing. Which is why, this last week, in spite of a slew of PS4-only or PS4-centric new releases, it managed to top charts with an impressive 73,400 units sold.

The PS4, with almost 30,000 units sold, while the 3DS, at slightly over 20,000 units sold, rounds out the top three. The Switch’s performance comes in the face of the PS4 exclusive The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cld Steel 3 launching last week, as well as FIFA 18, which sold far better on PS4 than on Switch. The Switch had its own new launch in Fire Emblem Warriors, which placed third on the software charts, behind Legend of Heroes and FIFA.

With the impending launch of Super Mario Odyssey, things in Japan are about to get exciting- it will be interesting to see just how high the market will allow sales of hardware and software to go.
