After favourable performance in the UK, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime reported that the Switch is doing great in the United States as well.
In conversation with the New York Times (via reporter Nick Wingfield on Twitter), Fils-Aime said that the Switch sold more in the past weekend than any other Nintendo console in history for the two-day period. Though actual numbers weren’t revealed, Fils-Aime did note that second-best launch for Nintendo was the Wii.
If that weren’t enough, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild managed to outsell all other standalone launch titles in the company’s history. Wii Sports isn’t a direct comparison because that was bundled with the Wii, resulting in its massive success over the years. That being said, it did beat out Super Mario 64 which launched with the Nintendo 64 in 1996.
The Nintendo Switch hasn’t been without its problems but it’s certainly performing well for the company worldwide. What are your thoughts on the Switch’s success? Let us know below.
