Team Ninja took us by surprise yesterday when it announced a closed alpha for Nioh 2, starting tomorrow, for some lucky PS4 owners. We also saw the first gameplay trailer for the sequel, which featured new weapon types, player-created characters, new foes, and the Yo-kai forms. Suffice it to say, it was pretty cool.

It seems some players already have access to the alpha though. Cerealkillerzat streamed the game on Twitch for three hours, showcasing the character creator (which provides options for customizing one’s Yokai form) and combat. We even got a look at some familiar enemies and areas that evoke the first game’s aesthetic sense. You can also check out DIOMED#BRO on YouTube for even more gameplay.

As per the opening screen of the alpha, it seems that Nioh 2 will be published by Sony Interactive Entertainment on the PS4. Expect to see it come to PC later in that case, just like with the first game.

The closed alpha will run from May 24th until June 6th. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.
