Nioh 2 Director Wants To Make A New Ninja Gaiden

Fumihiko Yasuda seems keen on revisiting the series.

Ninja Gaiden 3

Tomorrow we will see the launch of the latest action RPG from Team Ninja and Koei Tecmo, Nioh 2. The game takes a far more systems and action-heavy take on the ‘Souls-like’ genre that’s emerged over the last few years, and this is a team that has experience with action. They worked on the Ninja Gaiden reboot series that is still legendary among action game fans. It seems they are also keen on making another, but where can they find the time?

In an interview with Famitsu, Director Fumihiko Yasuda was asked about the possibility of a new Ninja Gaiden. He asked Koei Tecmo President Hisashi Koinuma (who was also part of the interview) if he could do one, in which Koinuma replied he’d have no time due to having to work on Nioh 2‘s DLC campaigns (thanks to Twinfinite for transcribing and translations).

While the exchange is obviously a bit tongue in cheek, this isn’t the first time it’s been expressed that Team Ninja wants to revive the franchise. It feels like there’s a bit too much open teasing at this point to think something Ninja Gaiden isn’t at least being talked about. Hopefully, it’ll emerge from the shadows someday.
