Just ahead of its launch in March, Team Ninja’s Nioh 2 has gone gold. Principle development is more or less finished and the game is being sent for certification and disc manufacturing. Of course, you can likely expect a day one patch, as is the case with many games, but for all intents and purposes, it’s “done”.
Nioh 2 serves as a prequel to the first game but is still set in the Sengoku era. As demon slayer Hideyoshi, you’ll roam the countryside, taking out all kinds of Yokai. Hideyoshi is half-Yokai though which allows him to utilize the Soul Cores of fallen demons to gain their powers. He can also assume different Guardian forms, transforming into a full Yokai.
Gameplay-wise, players can expect new weapons like the Switchglaive and dual hatchets; new weapon effects like Blessed and Corrupted; and new foes to cause new kinds of nightmares. The overall campaign has “about the same” number of main missions as Nioh 1 with playtime estimated at 55 hours (which can change depending on issues you face). Nioh 2 is out on March 13th for PS4 – stay tuned for more details in the coming weeks.
